Description
To this day, Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains a prolific composer for wind instruments, despite being a violinist himself. However, his compositions for other instrumentations have not gone amiss, Evening Star being no exception.During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Bozza won prizes for violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoirein Valenciennes, whilst remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1946, Bozza's Evening Star is based on a poem of the same name by Alfred de Musset, a prominent poet during the early 1800s. This choral work is arranged forfemale voices - Soprano, Mezzo Soprano and Contralto. Containing much musical variation, Bozza's Evening Star is an exciting addition to the choral repertoire.
