The Missa secunda was composed in 1964. It is dedicated by the composer "to my dear wife Margit on the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary". The Sanctus was added later. The Credo was not set to music.This original version was intended for mixed choir and organ. In 1986 a new version of the work was written with string orchestra instead of organ.There are also other versions of the work for women's choir and organ (Carus 27.074/50) and women's choir and string orchestra (also Carus 27.074/50).
