The original version of the Missa secunda was composed in 1964. It is dedicated by the composer to his "dear wife Margit on the occasion of our 25th wedding anniversary". The Sanctus was added later. The Credo was not set to music.The present arrangement for a choir with three women's voices was written in 1992 at the request of a friend of the composer. The versions for women's choir and organ and women's choir and string orchestra can both be found in the score.Other versions of the work include the original version for mixed choir and organ (Carus 27.074/00) and mixed choir and string orchestra (also Carus 27.074/00).
