This solo cantata for the Christmas season [St. Stephen’s Day] dates from Telemann’s years in Frankfurt [1712 1721]. The string part is intended for “Violini all’Unisono” [i.e., for several players], but in accordance with the practice of that timeit can be played by a solo violin, and is also suitable for an oboe.
