Leonard Balada (b. 1933) is a Catalan-American composer and teacher. He initially studied in Barcelona, the city of his birth, but moved to New York in 1956 to continue his education. Three Improvisations was composed in 1962, and one of his first pieces to be published after he graduated from the Juilliard School in 1960. Its neo-classical style is typical ofhis early works.
